Ive been inundated lately, with messages in my Facebook Inbox about flashing your bra essentially on your status to raise awareness for cancer. Seemingly it was for a good cause. The messages are all tagged with: "It will be fun to see how long it takes before the men will wonder why all the girls have a color on their status!"

The past few days I've seen status updates revealing every colour of the rainbow, shapes and patterns too.

You know what I didn't do? Think about breast cancer. That, however, was purportedly the point of the viral excercise. No one is sure who started the annoying trend, but apparently it, in effect, was to make people aware of breast cancer and to support medical research.  Instead I think it just turned into a perverted campaign. I mean for men, I don't think it was awareness that was raised...if you catch my drift.

Is there anyone in the world that isn't "aware" of cancer?  What does cancer awareness really mean? Do you really need a reminder that cancer exists or do we need a cure? I just don't think the Facebook crusade contributed to either.

I mean almost all the people updating with colours are just doing that.  I haven't seen anyone say anything about cancer.  That was the point wasn't it? Awareness....exposure?

I can guarantee that many of these women that participated actually have actively run for cancer research or supported friends with the disease, even watched loved ones suffer and die.  But what are people really doing for cancer?  Do we really know where all the money is going that is raised from events.  I mean if you think about it, almost everyday, an event is going on around the world raising money (a lot of it) for cancer research. Again, do we know where the money is going exactly? And don't you think by now, after all this time and money, there would be a cure? Can we as a society really be that easily manipulated into behaving like lemmings? Can anyone think for themselves anymore? Do your research.  Know that there are a ton of options out there besides what you may have heard from doctors who are supported by "Big Pharma".

Although pretty new, there are already anti-bra campaigns on Facebook.  "I Really Dont Care What Color Your Bra Is" and "Post a Fact Not a Bra Color". Not surprising, there are others who are using this as their status: "URGENT FACEBOOK VIRUS ALERT. An email recently went out to women asking them to post the colour of their bra.  This is a virus.  To fix it, you must remove your bra, then go to settings, enable webcam-record movie.  Please repost to your status".

Admittedly, The only thing that DID surprise me about that one is just how long it took for men to actually post it!

So really...how far is this gonna go?  I hope this isn't a start to an ugly trend...because really, I'm afraid to find out what our male counterparts are going to do in their quest to promote a testicular cancer awareness Facebook campaign.
